Manager on Norwich reverse.
Black Cats boss Martin O’Neill cut a frustrated figure after watching his side slip to a 2-1 defeat against Norwich City.
Sunderland were on the back foot after Sebastien Bassong snatched an early lead with an eighth minute header before Anthony Pilkington doubled the hosts’ lead half an hour later.
Craig Gardner reduced the deficit moments before the break but Sunderland were unable to capitalise on the plethora of chances they had to take anything from the game at Carrow Road.
O’Neill told safc.com: “We started off very tentatively and the first goal we conceded was poor and the second was even worse.
“Then before you know it we were two nil down before we even got started.
“In the second half we came out and we played completely different and we should have taken something out of the game - the second half belonged to us. ” O’Neill continued.
“There were plenty of opportunities and really good chances in the game but we spurned a lot of them.
“We didn’t get going until Craig [Gardner] scored and there’s absolutely no reason for that.
“We should have taken something from the game.
“It’s very frustrating to come away with nothing.”
