Boss mulling selection options.
Martin O'Neill could hand debuts to new signings Steven Fletcher and Adam Johnson against Morecambe on Tuesday night.
Both are available to play after the game against Reading at the Stadium of Light was postponed over the weekend.
Fletcher signed in time to face the Royals, but Johnson would have missed the game anyway after the deal went through late on Friday evening.
Tuesday's game will be Sunderland's first home contest of the season and boss O'Neill admits that the cancellation of the Reading fixture will play into his thinking when picking his team.
“The Morecambe game takes on a lot of significance now, although I thought it did anyway beforehand,” he said.
“After Reading we might have made one or two changes. Now we'll have a little look and see what we're going to do.
“We will go pretty strongly into the game because obviously we want to get through.”
Morecambe sit 11th in Npower League Two having enjoyed a solid start to the new campaign.
And O'Neill has warned his side not to underestimate their opposition, who are bossed by Morecambe mainstay Jim Bentley.
“They have had a good start to the season – we've had them watched in the games and they try to play [the right way],” he said.
“As maybe you would expect from most teams at this stage of the season, they're full of vitality."
