Midfielder feels progress is being made.
Following Sunderland's fifth pre-season outing, midfielder Jack Colback believes the team are steadily improving.
Colback featured in Sunderland's 1-1 draw with Derby County at Pride Park and was pleased with both the Championship side's performance and the Black Cats'.
He said: "It was another good game and it was a good opportunity for players to get another 90 minutes under their belt.
"I think we should have perhaps won the game." Colback continued.
"We looked comfortable and had chances, but Derby played well and probably deserved to get the draw.
"Derby are a good passing team. They played well and looked a good outfit but then when we upped the tempo in the second half we looked stronger and got the goal.
"We were unfortunate not keep the lead as we did create chances in game but didn't quite put them away, but that will come with more games.
"There's one more game left before the season starts so we need to keep creating these chances and the goals will follow."
