Cattermole expects strong team.
Lee Cattermole is expecting Martin O’Neill to field a strong team against Morecambe in the Capital One Cup tonight.
Sunderland saw their home opener against Reading postponed due to a waterlogged pitch last weekend following heavy rain in the north east.
New boys Steven Fletcher and Adam Johnson could both feature tonight, with Carlos Cuellar and Louis Saha pushing for their home debuts.
And Cattermole says O’Neill has some big decisions to make following Saturday’s postponement.
“If we'd have played on Saturday the gaffer might have changed things up, but now I'm not so sure,” he said.
“We're going to have to wait and see what he thinks is best. At the end of the day we want to stay in the cup.
“I'm sure the lads who play will be more than capable – we'll see what team the manager picks.”
Meanwhile Cattermole says a win tonight would provide a timely boost ahead of Saturday’s trip to Swansea.
The Welsh side have enjoyed a flying start to the season, winning both of their games while scoring a total of eight goals along the way.
However, Cattermole insists Sunderland will head south with a buzz of their own, boosted by O’Neill’s transfer moves.
“It's always going to be tough down there, but we are capable of winning,” he said.
“The lads who've come in have added to an already strong team. We've got a close bunch here and the new players will slot in to what we already have.”
