Defender on Morecambe victory and more.
Titus Bramble praised Sunderland’s professional approach following the win over Morecambe.
The Black Cats progressed to the third round of the Capital One Cup with a 2-0 win at the Stadium of Light.
James McClean scored both goals on Wearside to knock out the League Two club, who battled well against their top-flight opponents.
“Games like that are never easy – we had to approach it in a professional way and that’s what we did,” Bramble said after the game.
“On a personal level it was nice to come back in. The lads were fantastic in a difficult game. We had the right attitude and got the job done.”
The game featured debuts for Adam Johnson and Steven Fletcher, both of whom completed moves to Sunderland last Friday.
Both impressed during their first outings for the club, with Johnson laying on both of McClean’s goals.
“The signings have given the place a lift – I could tell that as soon as I walked into the building,” Bramble said.
“I’ve played against Adam many times before and it’s definitely better to be playing with him than against him!
“In Adam, Steven [Fletcher], Louis Saha and Carlos [Cuellar] we’ve got four fantastic players and I’m looking forward to working with them.”
Meanwhile the new arrivals have cranked up competition for places all over the pitch, something Bramble is relishing after making his first start of the season.
“We need competition in every position because it keeps the lads on their toes,” he explained.
“You have to be sharp in training because if you lose your place you know it could be three or four weeks, or more, until you’re back in the side.”
