Adam Johnson has backed fellow new boy Steven Fletcher to be a big hit on Wearside.
The pair both joined the club last Friday and made their debuts in the 2-0 midweek win over Morecambe.
Johnson teed up both goals for James McClean, while Fletcher got a useful run-out under his belt having played only 45 minutes during pre-season.
Fletcher has scored 12 Barclays Premier League goals in each of his last two seasons and Johnson was delighted to see him sign at the Stadium of Light.
“There was a lot of talk about Steven signing,” the winger said.
“When I came up to sign I saw him here and it’s good to see top quality players signing.
“It only motivated me more to want to come here and do well."
I think Steven is going to be a big hit here. He can score goals and hopefully I can create a few chances for him.

The winger joined City in February 2012 and feels he rounded out his game during his two and a half years at the Etihad Stadium.
“I think I’ve come on as a player just through training with the players they have,” he said.
“Any player is going to progress being at a club like that.
“Being around the likes of David Silva and Sergio Aguero – the things you learn from them are massive.”
