Gooch goal earns point for the young Black Cats.
Sunderland’s under-18 squad drew 1-1 at Wolverhampton Wanderers on Tuesday afternoon in the Barclays U18 Premier League.
Lynden Gooch scored his tenth goal of the campaign to level on the hour mark for the young Black Cats after the hosts took the lead early in the second-half.
Neither side created enough clear-cut chances to win the game, though Sunderland, who move up to fourth in the table with the point, will take heart from their domination in terms of possession as they fielded a young side in the Midlands.
Coach Carlton Fairweather was pleased with the level of performance as multiple younger players got valuable experience at under-18 level.
“We are really pleased with the lads,” Fairweather said. “When you consider that we finished the game with an under-15 and three under-16’s on the pitch then myself, Ged and the other staff are delighted with the performance.
“Lynden scored an excellent individual goal for us after we suffered our only really disappointment of the afternoon in conceding from a set-piece.
“All in all, we played well and we’re especially pleased with our play when in possession.”
