Stockdale looking to bounce back

Coach previews Spennymoor test.

Robbie Stockdale is backing Sunderland’s under-21s to bounce back from defeat when they take on Spennymoor Town on Saturday.

The young Black Cats have enjoyed a stunning pre-season campaign, but they were unable to replicate their previous levels of performance on Wednesday, falling to a 3-1 defeat to the SPL side.

Saturday’s match is the under-21s final pre-season fixture, and Stockdale challenged them to put things right and maintain a steady attitude, ahead of the Barclays under-21 Premier League opener against Liverpool.

“We go into our final match of pre-season on Saturday looking to improve upon Wednesday’s defeat to Partick Thistle.

“We have had some unbelievable highs during pre-season and Wednesday’s match was a bit of a low, you are always going to experience different sides of the spectrum but the important thing is to maintain a constant, steady attitude.

“The best thing about football is that you always have another game on the horizon to put in a better performance and make things right, and hopefully we will do that on Saturday.”
