Blackburn Rovers U18 3 Sunderland U18 1

Sunderland U18s' six-match unbeaten run came to an end with a 3-1 defeat at Blackburn.

The young Black Cats fell behind after 30 minutes when a corner wasn't dealt with and the ball was played back across and headed home.

Eight minutes later the lead was doubled when a pass was intercepted, allowing Rovers to score again.

Five minutes before the break Sunderland reduced the deficit with a well-worked goal after good work by Lynden Gooch.

The American striker played in Jordan Blinco who took a super first touch before scoring left-footed back across the keeper.

In the second half the visitors came back well and it was Blinco again who went close with a shot that was just wide eight minutes after the restart.

But on 63 minutes Blackburn hit back with the decisive third goal.

For the rest of the game the visitors created numerous chances to score but were just unable to apply the finishing touch.

Coach Carlton Fairweather said: "The result was very disappointing, but you cannot give away poor goals as we did."
