Mandron scores as U21s come back for point.
Reading U21 1 Sunderland U21 1
Sunderland's under-21s claimed an away point as Mikael Mandron's goal earned the young Black Cats a 1-1 draw at Reading.
The French striker tapped home the rebound having seen a penalty saved to ensure the visitors a share of the spoils.
An entertaining first half saw chances at both ends, with Sunderland keeper Joel Dixon turning in another good display.
Meanwhile, George Honeyman was denied by Reading keeper Dan Lincoln in the opening minutes before Louis Laing nodded a Mandron flick-on just over.
Reading took the lead 10 minutes after the break through Gozie Ugwu, who fired a low shot past Dixon from the right of goal.
But Sunderland kept going and were awarded a penalty when Honeyman was fouled in the box, although Mandron saw his initial effort saved by Lincoln.
However, the frontman was able to safely tuck the rebound home to earn his side a point from their final away game of the season.
The development squad now round off their season with two home games, taking on Spurs at the Stadium of Light next Monday evening before West Ham visit the Academy of Light on April 17.
