Development squad play out friendly draw.

Sunderland were held to a draw at the Academy of Light when they hosted Hull City in a friendly game.

The development squad took the lead early in a hard-fought game, but were pegged back five minutes from time by a determined Tigers side.

On a damp and dull afternoon on Wearside conditions affected play, as both sides struggled in a game in-keeping with the weather.

Ethan Robson tucked the ball away in the ninth minute to give Sunderland the lead after being set up by Mikael Mandron.

The visitors almost pulled level on the hour mark, but young stopper Joel Dixon did well to deny Hull after a one-on-one situation.

Jordan Laidler was inches away from doubling Sunderland’s lead in the 65th minute when his curled effort was tipped over by the City keeper.

Hull finally got the better of Dixon on the 85th minute mark as the visitors stabbed home a corner from close-range.

The under-21s have one more friendly game arranged as their 2013-14 campaign draws to a close.
