Young Black Cats looking to end 2013-14 on a high.
Coach Carlton Fairweather is challenging the U18s to end their season on a high when they play their final league fixture of the campaign this weekend.
The Young Black Cats head to Reading on Saturday (KO 12 noon) looking to build on a run of form which has seen them defeated just twice in their last eight games.
“Reading were similar to us in that they had a slow start and developed over the season,” Fairweather told safc.com.
“We had a period where we really got going and now we’re looking to finish on a high and win our final game.”
Sunderland can finish as high as third in the Barclays U18 Premier League, depending on their result this weekend and the fortunes of other sides.
And regardless of league position, Fairweather says the U18s’ season can certainly be considered a positive one.
“We’ve done really well in the way we’ve applied ourselves both individually and collectively,” he explained.
“The season’s been a definite success. We’ve been playing in a better league than we have done in previous years, so to finish where we have is fantastic in itself.
“I feel we’ve developed well collectively.”
