Trio score in away day win.

Leicester U18 1 Sunderland U18 3

Sunderland maintained their improved form with a sparkling 3-1 win in the Midlands at Leicester City today.

It was the young Black Cats’ first away win of the season, following their breakthrough home victory against West Ham last week, and it was thoroughly deserved.

Sunderland started on the front foot and in only the first minute, a cross in from the left by Ethan Robson was headed just over the bar by James Stinson.

Eight minutes later the youngsters did take the lead as Lynden Gooch (pictured) made a good run down the left and crossed for Dan Pybus to time his run perfectly to come in and score from close range.

The lead was doubled after 21 minutes following good work from Stinson, Gooch himself who turned well to score with an arcing shot high above the keeper.

The young Black Cats made it three on the half hour; it was the Gooch and Stinson duo that once more created the goal following a good team move which saw the American play in the final ball for Stinson to smack home a low shot.

It was still 3-0 at the break but the Foxes hit back one minute into the second period with a well worked goal.

The visitors then composed themselves and settled for the next ten minutes before once again going on to dominate as Gooch played in sub Jordan Blinco who hit a fierce shot which drew a brilliant save from the keeper.

Carlton Fairweather was delighted with the display, saying afterwards: "We played really well and it was great to get our first away win of the season.”
