Ball: 'John's face said it all - he was buzzing'.

Kevin Ball was delighted to see John Egan back on matchday duty after the defender was named on the bench for the development squad last night.

The Irish defender was an unused substitute for the under-21s’ 3-2 win over Middlesbrough at Eppleton CW.

Egan – a graduate of the club’s Academy – hasn’t played since breaking his leg during a loan spell at Bradford City last November.

Ball says the 20-year-old is on a high and that his team-mates are equally pleased to have the popular centre-back in their ranks once more.

“After what happened to John last year it's great to see him back on the bench,” said Ball.

“During the pre-match warm-up I asked him how he felt and his face said it all – he was buzzing.

“John has done all his fitness work and now he needs games. The lads are all delighted for him and it's great that he's back.”
