Sunderland development squad midfielder Ross Holland is hoping to fulfil his boyhood dream of featuring for Sunderland at the Stadium of Light tomorrow.

Kevin Ball’s development squad host Chelsea tomorrow and Birtley-born Holland is hoping to feature at the Stadium for the first time.

“It would be a dream come true for me, if I can play,” the 19-year-old said. “It would be great as a Sunderland fan – I’ve never been on the pitch before so to play would be unbelievable.

Holland has been part of an under-21 side that has started the season in excellent form with five wins from seven games.

And Holland, who has been with the club since he was 13 years old, says the team spirit in the dressing room is what has led the youngsters to second in the Barclays U21 Premier League.

“I’ve been absolutely over the moon for the lads, when I’ve been sub I’ve been getting behind the team and urging them on as well,” Holland continued.

“We all keep working hard in training and working together.

“Everyone gets on well; there’s a good atmosphere in the changing room, we’re enjoying training and it’s bringing us on a lot.”
