U21s' pre-season schedule confirmed

Friendlies lined up for development squad.

Sunderland’s development squad have confirmed their initial pre-season schedule as the young Black Cats returned to the Academy of Light this week.

Ahead of the start of the Barclays U21 Premier League on Saturday 10th August, the development squad will play five domestic friendlies either side of a training camp in Holland where they are expected to play two games.

New addition Duncan Watmore has joined up with the squad whilst England under-19 international goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has also returned after representing England U19s in Belgium.

The schedule will kick-off with the visit of Southampton to the Academy of Light on Wednesday 17th July before a trip to Darlington on Saturday 20th July.

Ball’s side will travel to Lincolnshire to take on Conference Premier side Lincoln City on Wednesday 24th July for a 7pm kick-off.

The under-21’s will then travel to FA Vase winners Spennymoor Town on Saturday 27th July before a trip to the Netherlands between the 30th July and 3rd August.

The final game of the schedule will see Kevin Ball take the side to Harrogate’s CNG Stadium on Wednesday 7th August for a 7.30pm kick-off.
