Harrison and Agnew seal pre-season win.

Sunderland’s development squad continued their fine start to pre-season with a 2-0 victory over Conference Premier outfit Lincoln City.

Scott Harrison bagged the Black Cats’ opener before Liam Agnew added a late second.

The Imps proved a stern test for Sunderland after the Black Cats had drawn with Southampton and beat Darlington in their previous two games.

Bohan Dixon went close to giving the hosts an early lead but he headed Alan Power’s corner just wide.

Sunderland were ahead on 26 minutes as Billy Knott’s nicely floated free-kick was bundled home by Harrison at the back post.

Lincoln were always in the game and went close to equalising when Jake Sheridan crossed for Adi Yussuf who shot just wide on the half-volley.

Waide Fairhurst was the next player to go close for the hosts but his flick from Power’s cross was well saved by Maksymilian Stryjek in the Sunderland goal.

Coach Kevin Ball made multiple changes on the hour-mark and one of them, Ross Holland, nearly doubled the Black Cats’ lead when his shot was well saved by Paul Farman after Carl Lawson had fed a neat pass through.

Agnew made sure of the win two minutes from time after he latched onto George Honeyman’s pass and beat Farnan to the ball before tapping into an empty net.

Holland nearly made it three in stoppage time but his chip was saved by Farnan.

The development squad travel to Spennymoor on Saturday for their final game before their tour of Holland.

Sunderland: Stryjek (Burke, 72), Cartwright (McNamee, 72), Ferguson, Gorrin (Agnew, 63), Bardsley, Harrison, Mitchell, Laing (Holland, 63), Lynch, Knott (Honeyman, 63), Watmore (Lawson, 63).
