Sukar on target in youngsters' win

Sunderland’s under-18 continued their prolific start to their pre-season with a 6-0 win over Airdrie at the Academy of Light.

Two goals from Jordan Blinco, who excelled in his first 90 minutes of the season, as well as strikes from Martin Smith, Jas Sukar, Rees Greenwood and Ethan Robson, secured the win for the young Black Cats.

Coaches Ged McNamee and Carlton Fairweather would have been pleased with the fluidity displayed by the under-18’s as they ran riot against the Diamonds.

The young Black Cats were ahead after just two minutes as Blinco finished neatly into the bottom corner after good build up play.

It took just five more minutes for Sunderland’s advantage to be doubled as Smith drove through midfield and latched on to a neat flick-on before driving home.

Central defender Jas Sukar bagged the Black Cats’ third just after the quarter hour after he drove home following good play between Michael Ledger and Greenwood.

Blinco made it 4-0 before the half-hour as he curled a right-footed effort into the far corner from the edge of the area.

Ryan Ellison, Ross Colquhoun and Luke Molyneux all entered the fray at half-time as McNamee and Fairweather utilised their squad.

James Stinson went close to adding a fifth on two occasions before Blinco unselfishly teed up Greenwood who made it 5-0 from close range.

Greenwood turned provider for Robson in the latter stages, prodding a nice ball through for the Houghton-born youngster who finished coolly.

The young Black Cats now head on a brief tour to Scotland where they will face Hibernian and Rangers prior to the beginning of their Barclays U18 Premier League opener.
