Blinco scores first goal for U18s in defeat.

Liverpool U18 4 Sunderland U18 1

An inexperienced Sunderland under-18s were beaten 4-1 by Liverpool in Merseyside on Saturday.

Goals from Jordan Rossiter, Jerome Sinclair, Cameron Brannagan and Daniel Trickett-Smith were enough for the hosts after Jordan Blinco had earlier equalised for the Black Cats with his first goal for the club.

Sunderland keeper Peter Burke made a string of fine saves throughout the early stages but he was unable to prevent the Reds taking the lead on the half-hour as Ryan Kent crossed for Liverpool skipper Rossiter so tap home.

The visitors equalised ten minutes before half-time with their first real opportunity, Blinco providing the end product to score his first goal for Craig Liddle’s side.

Jerome Sinclair, who became Liverpool’s youngest-ever first team player when he played in the Reds Capital One Cup match with West Bromwich Albion, replied immediately for the hosts – blasting home, after a goalmouth scramble, to restore the Reds' lead.

The hosts made it 3-1 on the stroke of half-time; Seyi Ojo’s caught Sunderland on the break and pulled back for Brannagan who made no mistake from close range.

And, despite a strong effort from the young Black Cats in the second-half, Liddle’s boys couldn’t force their way back into the game – Dan Wright coming closest when he shot Steven McCarthy’s cross wide.

Trickett-Smith scored the pick of the goals, smashing into the top corner from 20 yards to make it 4-1 to the hosts in the 87th minute.
