Sunderland’s under-18 captain, Liam Agnew, was ecstatic to score his first two goals of the season as the young Black Cats defeated West Ham United 2-1 at the Academy of Light on Saturday.
Agnew, who has been ever-present in the Black Cats side with 14 appearances so far this season, told safc.com he wants to add more attacking productivity to his game.
He said: “I hadn’t scored this season so it was good to get on the scoresheet.
“I’ve always wanted to play more attacking, but I just play wherever the coaches want me to play and it was great to get the two goals today.
“To be fair I was disappointed I didn’t make it a hat-trick near the end."
Sunderland-born Agnew also praised his side’s character as they bounced back from last weekend’s 5-1 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur to beat the Hammers.
“It was a great win for us especially after the disappointment of last week when we got whipped 5-1.
“It was a great reaction and the team was unbelievable today.
“We just played our normal game and showed great character, especially for a young side.”
