Egan scores only goal to seal victory.
Stoke City U21 0 Sunderland U18 1
Sunderland's under-21s extended their unbeaten run in the league to four games with a fine away win at Stoke.
Kevin Ball's side acquitted themselves well at the Britannia Stadium as John Egan scored the only goal.
Meanwhile Phil Bardsley started the game and successfully completed a 75-minute run-out as he continues to build his match fitness.
The decisive moment came on 23 minutes as Craig Lynch and Jordan Laidler combined, with the latter teeing up defender Egan to slide the ball in at the near post.
Sunderland created a number of chances throughout and could have had more goals on another day.
But the hosts did threaten with several attacking raids and Jordan Pickford was called upon to make a couple of key saves to earn his clean sheet.
