Budding star Pybus looking for debut.

One of Sunderland's budding Academy stars is gunning for a chance to shine with England on Thursday.

Schoolboy midfielder Daniel Pybus, who plays in the Black Cats' under-15 squad, has been called up for the Three Lions' under-16s for the Victory Shield clash with Scotland.

If selected he will make his England U16 debut for Kenny Swain's side at the Pirelli Stadium, home of Npower League Two side Burton Albion.

The game kicks off at 7.35pm and will be screened live on Sky Sports.

“The Victory Shield is of massive value to us,” Swain told thefa.com ahead of tonight’s game. “It gives the players crucial experience of tournament football and it prepares them for next season, when the U17s will be involved in UEFA qualifiers.

“Over the last few years the number of players we have looked at has increased. We would usually look at around 30 players but in the last couple of years that number has been closer to 50 and that has to be a good thing.

“So it’s important we give as many players as possible game time in an England shirt and this competition allows us to do just that."
