Coach looking forward to having defender back in fold.
Kevin Ball can’t wait to see John Egan back at the Academy of Light as the defender’s rehabilitation begins.
Egan broke his leg while on loan at Bradford City recently and has undergone surgery at a hospital in Darlington.
The promising youngster is facing a long spell on the sidelines but Ball – coach of Sunderland’s under-21s – says he can rely on the backing of everyone at the club.
“Quite a few of the staff have been to visit John in hospital, and his family are over supporting him too,” Ball revealed.
“It’s a tough time for him and any injury like this does knock you back.
“But John is the sort of lad who will face it straight on and say ‘come on, I’ll beat you.’
“The surgeon and the staff who have been looking after him have been excellent and we wish him a speedy recovery.
“Hopefully John will be soon be back at the club where we can all support him and give him all the help he needs.”
