Development coach Kevin Ball unhappy after defeat at Gateshead.
Kevin Ball couldn't hide his frustration after seeing his development squad lose out 4-3 in a thrilling clash with Gateshead.
Sunderland found themselves 2-0 up after just five minutes only for Gateshead to turn the match around and establish a 3-2 lead late on.
Billy Knott's equaliser looked to have secured a draw, but the Conference Premier side struck again in the final minute to leave the Sunderland camp looking back on what might have been.
It's still pre-season and people will learn
- Kevin Ball
"Some of the football we played possession-wise was outstanding and I felt really comfortable in the game," Ball said.
"But conceding those goals has annoyed me. We produced some great play but some of the goals against beggared belief, to be honest.
"We came here with a very young team against a decent Gateshead outfit and held our own, no problem. We should have won the game but the way we conceded the goals frustrated me."
He added: "The biggest thing is it's still pre-season and I'd like to think that people will learn from it.
"First and foremost the pre-season is about conditioning and then about getting back to making good decisions.
"I'll sit and watch the game back and that will show me the good bits - it's important not to get too het up about the bad parts."
