Sunderland WFC star wins international spot.
Sunderland WFC’s Beth Mead has been named in the final England U19 squad for the upcoming European Championship Finals.
The tournament, which will be held in Wales later this month, sees England face the hosts, France and Denmark in the group stage.
Striker Mead, who scored 30 goals in all competitions last season, said: “I've worked so hard and glad I’ve got this opportunity.
“I just need to get on the pitch and show people what I can do.”
The 18-player squad will start their campaign against the French on Monday 19th August before taking on Wales three days later.
England will then face the Danes on Sunday 25th August with the top two teams from each group progressing into the semi-finals.
The final will be played on Saturday 31st August in Llanelli.
Sunderland WFC manager Mick Mulhern added: “Beth’s selection just goes to show that hard work pays off.
“England have a lot of good forwards in that age group and I’m sure she can’t wait for the first game.”
Meanwhile, Keira Ramshaw and new signing Becky Bass, who has joined from Leeds United, have both been placed on standby.
