Head coach of ladies' side reacts to win at Doncaster.
Head coach Claire Robinson was delighted with how Sunderland Ladies acquitted themselves in a 2-0 win at title rivals Doncaster Belles.
The Lady Black Cats collected three points in the Continental Cup competition with a victory at the Keepmoat Stadium thanks to goals from Beth Mead and Rachel Furness.
The two sides are neck and neck at the top of the WSL 2 table, but it was Sunderland who came out on top as they bounced back from a defeat at top-flight side Liverpool.
The Wearsiders now take on London Bees at the Hetton Centre on Sunday looking to overtake the Belles and assume leadership of the division.
“We wanted a game so badly after the Liverpool defeat and so I'm really pleased for the girls,” Robinson said after Thursday night’s game.
“I think this result and the way we performed will send a positive message to the league. We will now rest up and look forward to getting back into league action against London Bees on Sunday.
“They are a young, eager side with a new manager and they will no doubt be wanting to prove themselves against us. We will put our recovery plan in place and we will be ready to go again on Sunday."
