Match preview ahead of Lady Black Cats' Continental Cup test.

Sunderland’s Ladies will take their 100% record to Merseyside this weekend as they face WSL 1 outfit Liverpool in the group stage of the Continental Cup (Saturday 3rd May, KO 6.30pm).

The Lady Black Cats have won all three of their league games so far in their debut WSL 2 campaign and got their cup challenge off to a successful start with a 3-0 victory over local rivals Durham in midweek.

It’s been a goal-filled start to the season for the ladies, who have netted 13 times in four games while conceding on just four occasions.

Beth Mead leads her side’s goalscoring charts with three strikes, followed by Abbey Joice and Vicki Greenwell with two apiece.

Saturday’s game precedes a 12-day break, with the ladies next in action against Doncaster Belles on May 15.

Sunderland and Liverpool met recently in the FA Cup, with the Merseyside outfit running out 2-0 winners in a close game before the season got under way.

Liverpool claimed their first WSL title in 2013 and are amongst the favourites for silverware this time around.

The Reds have won one and drawn one of their two league games so far, with a season-opening 1-0 victory at home to Manchester City followed by a 0-0 draw at Chelsea.

Both of Liverpool’s last two games have been against city rivals Everton, who prevailed 2-0 in the FA Cup before the sides played out a 0-0 draw in the Continental Cup on Wednesday evening.
