World Cup place for Mead

Striker selected in England U20 squad for Canada trip.

Beth Mead has been named in the England squad for the FIFA Women’s U20 World Cup which will be staged in Canada in August.

England U20 manager Mo Marley announced her squad today which includes the 19-year-old striker and also features Sunderland midfielder Rebekah Bass on the standby list.

England have been drawn in Group C alongside South Korea (who they will face on August 6), Mexico (August 9) and Nigeria (August 13).

Three former Sunderland players were members of the 2010 World Cup squad – Lucy Bronze, Demi Stokes and Jordan Nobbs have all since gone on to earn senior team recognition.
