Mulhern urges team to keep up the hard work.
Sunderland Ladies may be sitting pretty at the top of the FA WSL2 table, but team manager Mick Mulhern insists that there is still a long way to go in the season.
This weekend sees the Lady Black Cats take on Oxford United, who are currently at the opposite end of the table but Mulhern insists that the team are expecting another tough match.
“The league is very tight with everything is still to play for,” admits Mulhern. “Sunday will see a stern test against Oxford, who we played In the FA Cup earlier in the year. Our girls have been working hard this week since the Belles game and are looking to build on what's been a very good season so far. Last week’s result was a great boost but nothing has been won yet and we must improve.
“We will be looking to push on and progress with our levels of consistency as we head into the second half of the league campaign. The aim is to continue to pick up the points that we need to keep us in the hunt for the WSL2 league title.”
Sunderland will face Oxford United at the Hetton Centre, with the slightly earlier kick off time of 11.30am. Originally scheduled for 2pm, the SAFC Ladies’ WSL2 fixture clashed with an England women’s friendly match being held in Hartlepool on the same day. Whilst the club is not permitted to change the day of the fixture it is hoped that by moving to an earlier kick off fans will be able to attend both games should they wish.
The first 50 Sunderland fans to buy tickets for the WSL2 league fixture will be given a free ticket to the England women’s game later that day.
Adults £4, U18s/O65s £1, SAFC season card holders £2.
