Ladies looking to extend lead

by Ashley Houghton

Mulhern's side travel to Cardiff this weekend.

Sunderland WFC will be looking to extend their lead at the top of the FA Women’s Premier League to four points with a win at Cardiff on Sunday.

Mick Mulhern’s side bounced back from three consecutive defeats to beat Manchester City 1-0 last time out.

Top goal-scorer Beth Mead scored the winner last weekend to take her tally for the season to 26 as she continues on all fronts since her England under-19 international call up.

The Lady Black Cats travel to Wales for the first of their final four games, in which they play the Bluebirds on two occasions.

The two sides have already met this campaign, though, that was a League Cup tie back in February when Mead and Sophie Williams scored the goals to give Mulhern’s side the points.

Cardiff have struggled at home this season; they’ve notched only two wins on their own turf this campaign leaving them with 16 points from 15 games.

Sunderland will be without Natalie Gutteridge for the remainder of the campaign after it was confirmed that the midfielder has torn her Anterior Cruciate Ligaments – all at Sunderland AFC would like to wish Natalie a speedy recovery.

The game takes place at the University of Wales, Llanrumey, Cardiff and kick-off is at 1pm.
