Championship title secured at Luton in '07.

2007 – Sunderland won the Championship title with a 5-0 win over Luton Town at Kenilworth Road.

2000 – Kevin Phillips became the first Sunderland player since Raich Carter and Bobby Gurney in 1936 to score 30 league goals in a season when he scored the only goal of the game as the Black Cats defeated West Ham at the Stadium of Light.

1950 – Sunderland beat Chelsea 4-1 in their final home game of the season to record their highest post WW2 finish of third. The 21,567 inside Roker Park tipped the aggregate attendance for the season to over one million for the only time in the club’s history.

1915 – Tom Watson, the manager of the ‘Team of all the Talents’, died in Liverpool aged 56.
