Roker Park

Player of the Day: Anton Rogan

by Stuart Vose

Northern Irish defender in today's spotlight.

Belfast-born defender Anton Rogan spent almost two years on Wearside during the early Nineties.

Having begun his career with his homeland with Distillery, Anton moved to Celtic in May 1986 and was a double winner with the club in their centenary year.

Denis Smith paid a reported £350,000 to bring the defender to Roker Park in October 1991 and Rogan didn’t have to wait long for a debut, against Brighton.

An impressive first season at Roker Park culminated in an appearance in the 1992 FA Cup final against Liverpool, but Rogan’s second campaign was ended prematurely by a broken leg.

After a total of 57 appearances – plus one goal – he moved on to Oxford United in August 1993 and later played for Millwall and Blackpool.
