1988 – England under-15s beat Brazil in front of 16,058 spectators. Future Black Cats Lee Clark, Marcus Stewart and Chris Makin all lined up for the Three Lions.

1963 – Robert Hogg, the first SAFC player to score a hat-trick against Newcastle, passed away aged 85.

1921 – Charlie Buchan became the first Sunderland player to captain England in a goalless draw against Wales in Cardiff.
