2007 – A last-minute Daryl Murphy goal preserved Sunderland’s unbeaten run as the Lads fought back to draw 2-2 with Stoke City at the Stadium of Light.

1998 – Former Black Cats winger Tommy Reynolds passed away at the age of 75.

1976 – A brace from Bobby Kerr gave Sunderland a 2-0 win at Orient, which, despite their third-placed position in Division Two, was their first away success for three months.

1920 – Jackie Mordue played his final game for Sunderland as Middlesbrough, the side he would later join, were defeated 2-0 at Roker Park.
