47 years since O'Hare, Mulhall and Martin lead the Lads to 3-0 win at St James'.

1966 – Sunderland recorded a 3-0 win over Newcastle United at St James’ Park as John O’Hare, George Mulhall and Neil Martin scored the goals.

1932 – Sunderland beat Bolton Wanderers 7-4 at Roker Park having been 6-2 up at half time. Bobby Gurney scored four goals with Connor, Carter and Temple getting the others.

1898 – Hugh Wilson scored the first hat-trick by a Sunderland player at Roker Park in a 3-0 victory over Bury.

1866 – Goalkeeper John Edward Doig was born in Letham, Forfarshire. John is the holder of a record four top flight championship medals (shared with Jimmy Millar) whilst with Sunderland.
