1984 - Goalkeeper Keiren Westwood was born in Manchester 

1962 – Northern Irish international forward John Crossan was signed from Belgian side Standard Liege for £26,700.

1920 – Sunderland drew 2-2 at Bradford City with Charlie Parker, Jack Mitton and Bobby Marshall making their debuts. 17-year-old Marshall netted on his debut to become Sunderland’s youngest scorer.

1897 – The Newcastle Road ground had its largest attendance, estimated at 22,000, for a goalless draw with Aston Villa.
