Black Cats miss two penalties but still win at Palace in '95.

2002 – Peter Reid’s almost seven year reign as Sunderland manager ended when he was sacked after a poor start to the 2002-03 campaign.

1995 – Sunderland took all three points at Crystal Palace, despite missing two penalties, thanks to David Kelly’s second-half strike.

1911 – Outside right Robert Best scored on his debut in a 3-1 home victory over Aston Villa as the Lads came back from 1-0 down at half-time.

1899 – Sunderland’s one and only visit to Glossop North End for a league match ended in a 2-0 victory thanks to goals from Colin McLatchie and Thomas Becton.
