1973 FA Cup winner Vic Halom turns 65 today.

1984 – Sunderland had three players sent off in a game for the first, and so far only, time as Barry Venison, Paul Lemon and Clive Walker were all dismissed during a friendly match at Hammarby in Sweden.

1979 – Debutant John Hawley set up ‘Pop’ Robson’s winner in Sunderland’s 1-0 League Cup third round replay victory over First Division Manchester City at Roker Park.

1973 – Roker Park staged its first European Cup Winners’ Cup tie as Dennis Tueart scored from the spot in a 1-0 first round second leg game against Vasas Budapest.

1948 – 1973 FA Cup winning centre forward Vic Halom was born in Coton Park near Burton-upon-Trent.
