Phillips double sends Black Cats to highest ever Premiership position.

1999 – Sunderland went to second place in the Premiership, their highest ever position, after a 4-0 away win against Bradford City. Kevin Phillips’ two strikes took him to ten goals in ten games.

1982 – Sunderland beat Norwich City 4-1 at Roker Park with all of the goals coming in the second-half.

1926 – Goals from Marshall (2), Coglin and Ellis sealed a 4-1 home victory over Sheffield Wednesday to take Sunderland to the top of Division One.

1922 – Diminutive post WW2 outside left Tommy Reynolds was born in Felling.
