Republic of Ireland international striker in the spotlight.
Stephen Elliott scored 23 goals in 88 appearances for Sunderland between 2004 and 2007 – experiencing two promotions in his time on Wearside.
Elliott progressed through the youth ranks at Manchester City and made two league appearances before joining the Black Cats in 2004.
The Republic of Ireland international scored on his home debut in a 3-1 home victory over Crewe Alexandra.
The Black Cats ran out comfortable Championship winners as Elliott starred up front with 16 goals in 46 games.
Elliott was injured for the majority of the return to the top flight and he would feature in only 16 games, though he did score two fine long-range efforts in defeats to Manchester United and Newcastle.
Stephen returned to full fitness for the 2005-06 season and added five goals in 24 appearances over the course of the campaign.
Particular highlights included his double in a 3-1 home victory over Colchester United as well as his goal in a fine 3-0 away win at Leeds United.
Elliott left for Wolverhampton Wanderers at the end of the 2006-07 season and spent a year at Molineux before spells Preston North End, Norwich City, Hearts and Coventry City followed.
Capped nine times by his country, Elliott scored his only goal in a 1-0 World Cup Qualifying win over Cyprus.
