1996 – Alan Winston passed away at the age of 81. Alan was the first [person to have two spells managing the club; 1957-64 and 1968-72.

1958 – South African centre forward Don ‘The Rhino’ Kichenbrand scored on his debut at home to Sheffield Wednesday

1933 – Roker Park recorded its highest attendance with 75,118 fans in the ground to see Sunderland lose against Derby County in a sixth round FA Cup replay.
