Full back Dariusz Kubicki makes club history.

1994 – Dariusz Kubicki became the first Pole to play for Sunderland when he made his debut against Notts County, two days after joining on loan from Aston Villa.

1984 – Len Ashurst, the holder of Sunderland’s record number of outfield appearances, was appointed manager with caretaker boss Pop Robson resuming to his role as coach.

1938 – Sunderland beat Spurs 1-0 in front of 75,038 at White Hart Lane.

1938 – Jackie Mordue passed away, aged 51. Mordue played at outside right, and won the Football League championship with Sunderland in 1912–13. He also made two appearances for England.
