A win over Everton and Gabbiadini sees red after treble.

2000 – Sunderland beat Everton 2-1 thanks to goals from Nicky Summerbee and Kevin Phillips. It was Sunderland’s first win of the new century and ended a run of 11 games without a win.

1989 – Marco Gabbiadini was shown a red card after clashing with an Ipswich Town defender. The striker had just converted a spot kick to complete his hat-trick in a 4-1 home win.

1907 – Scottish international James Watson played his final game for SAFC after seven years on Wearside.
