Major plans for the home of the Black cats were revealed.

2008 – Roy Keane’s Sunderland were held to a goalless draw at Pride Park by Derby County. The Black Cats did get the ball in the back of the net however, it was controversially ruled as being off side.

1999 – Sunderland announced plans to increase the capacity of the Stadium of Light from 42,000 to 48,000.

1952 - Sunderland manager Martin O'Neill was born in Kilrea, Northern Ireland. 

1984 – Manager Alan Durban was sacked, with Bryan ‘Pop’ Robson stepping in as caretaker.

1930 – Birth of centre-forward Ted Purdon in Johannesburg.
