Paraguayan midfielder Cristian Riveros spent one season with Sunderland after making the move from South America.

Riveros began his career in his homeland, rising to prominence at Libertad and twice winning the domestic league championship.

He moved to Mexico to join Cruz Azul in 2007 and had a successful 2010 World Cup campaign in South Africa, playing alongside Black Cat Paulo Da Silva.

That success led to a move to Sunderland in summer 2010, with Riveros making his debut on the opening day of the 2010-11 season in a 2-2 draw with Birmingham.

He made a total of 14 appearances during that season and spent the 2011-12 campaign on loan at Kayserispor in Turkey, playing 30 games.

Riveros later joined the Turkish side on a permanent basis before returning to South America in June 2013 to join Brazilian side Gremio.

Internationally, he has been capped 85 times by Paraguay, scoring 15 goals.
