2000 - Sunderland came back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at Arsenal thanks to goals from Phillips and McCann.

1991 - Malcolm Crosby replaced Denis Smith as Sunderland manager and got off to a great start, winning all four games in January.

1967 - Colin Suggett marked his 19th birthday with two goals, while Bruce Stuckey scored the other in a 3-3 draw with Newcastle at Roker Park.

1961 - Sunderland's home match against Charlton was postponed - the first time a game at Roker Park had been called off since Christmas Day 1925.
