1994 – Lee Howey scored twice and Gary Owers made his final Sunderland appearance as the Black Cats defeated Bristol City 2-0 at Roker Park. The game was also the club’s 1000th outside of the top-flight.

1960 – Harry Hooper scored twice in a 3-3 draw at Swansea Town whilst Ian Lawther bagged the other goal.

1949 – Sunderland beat Liverpool at Roker Park thanks to goals from Tommy Wright, Len Shackleton and Harry Kirtley.

1932 – Three first-half goals, including a pair from Bobby Gurney, set up a 3-1 win at Portsmouth.
