1995 – Martin Scott’s first-half penalty gave Sunderland all of the points at Roker Park against Crystal Palace.

1979 – Claudio Marangoni became the first Argentinian to join Sunderland when he moved from San Lorenzo.

1892 – Prolific centre forward John Campbell scored a hat-trick in Sunderland’s 5-0 win at Nottingham Forest. ‘The Team of All The Talents’ scored five goals or more in nine of their thirty league games as they retained the league title with a record one hundred goals.

1887 – Sunderland came from 2-0 down at half time to beat Middlesbrough 4-2 in their first ever FA Cup replay.
