Quinn notches double in first ever Premiership win.

2002 – Matthew Piper joined Sunderland from Leicester City for £3.5million.

1996 – Sunderland recorded their first ever Premiership win as a Niall Quinn double, as well as strikes from Michael Gray and Dickie Ord earned Peter Reid’s side a 4-1 win over Nottingham Forest.

1965 – Scottish international Jim Baxter made his Sunderland debut in a 1-0 defeat at Elland Road.

1954 – The Black Cats started their season in front of the club’s highest ever opening day home attendance. The game against West Bromwich Albion attracted 56,827 to Roker Park.
