On this day...

by Kate Smith looks back on what happened on this day in Sunderland's history.

2010 - Sunderland collected a  point against Manchester United after a goalless draw at the Stadium of Light. A delayed kick-off due to a burst water pipe didn't hinder the home side with the best chance of the game falling to Steed Malbranque, who was inches away from securing Sunderland’s first league win over United since 1997.

1999 – Sunderland soared to second in the Premier League after sealing a 4-0 win over Bradford City at Valley Parade.  Kevin Phillips nabbed a brace in the win, which took his tally for the season to 10 goals in 10 league games.

1982 – Ally McCoist was on the score sheet as Sunderland downed Norwich City 4-1 at Roker Park.
